TASHKENT, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said on Sunday that China is willing to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan on wide-ranging issues while meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov.     "Uzbekistan, as a country with important influence in central Asia, plays a major role in regional affairs, and developing a friendly partnership with Uzbekistan is one of the priorities of China's foreign policy," said Li.     "China is willing to work together with Uzbekistan to constantly solidify the friendship and political trust between the two countries, make efforts to expand pragmatic bilateral cooperation in all fields, and increase exchanges in culture, education, health and sports," he added. BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Central Authorities have launched a new round of campaign to crack down on "small coffers" illegally held in the hands of Party and government organizations at different levels.     This year, Party and government departments that completely rely on the budgetary funds are the first to carry out the work and later, the campaign will involve all nongovernmental organizations, state-run companies, and state-held companies, in a step-by-step way, says a document recently issued by the General Offices of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council.     The document, known as "Directions on Deepening the Crackdown of Small Exchequers", criticized the illegal phenomenon, emphasizing that in some areas and departments it has occurred frequently or even seriously. "The masses have responded to it strongly," it says.     It calls these "small coffers" a "cancer" and says they must be eliminated. The illegal phenomenon has resulted in inaccuracy in accounting, disturbance in market order, losses in state income and property and corruption, according to the circular.     It encourages all units concerned to check the problem by themselves and those that pretend to do so will be punished. It pledges to punish those who try to boycott the campaign or retaliate the tippers.     Those that are involving huge sum of the illegal treasuries or criminal activities will be handed over to judicial departments in accordance with law, according to the document.     The Central Authorities have set up a special leading group with members from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Supervision, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Auditing Administration.     In the late 1990s, the Chinese Authorities conducted the first round of auditing and cracking down on "small coffers" throughout the country.

BRATISLAVA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Slovakian counterpart Ivan Gasparovic held talks here on Thursday and they agreed to take the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to consolidate their traditional friendship and enrich the contents of cooperation.     Speaking highly of the longstanding friendship between the two countries, Hu noted in particular the substantial development of bilateral relations since the Central European country gained independence 16 years ago.     Expressing satisfaction at the state of bilateral ties, Hu said there are no outstanding issues left over by history or conflict of interests between China and Slovakia, Hu said. URUMQI, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The violence-torn Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is plodding on the road to recovery amid vigilance one week after the violence in its capital city of Urumqi that left 184 people dead and 1,680 injured.     Police with riot gears were inspecting checkpoints, combing coaches for runaway suspects involved in the deadly violence.     Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, said in his tour to the autonomous region on Sunday that to maintain social stability is the top concern of the livelihood of the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang for the time being.     The regional government chairman Nur Berkri said in a televised speech Sunday afternoon that the number of people injured in violence on July 5 had risen to 1,680.     Altogether 216 of the 939 hospitalized are seriously injured and 74 injured fatally, he said.     An oil tank explosion occurred at a chemical plant in Urumqi Sunday morning. Police ruled out the possibility of intentional sabotage after on-the-spot investigation but said the reason of the explosion needs further investigation.     At the suburb of Aksu City, people who flocked into the Uygur bazaar, Toksun, as the local residents called it, said they had felt something different.     "There are much fewer people compared with what it was before the violence," said Tunxunjiang Tuohuniyazi, a local Uygur who were visiting the bazaar with his wife.     "On my way here, I saw a lot of policemen," he said. "But I understand it. BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Han Seung Soo described Friday the rapid growth of bilateral ties with China as "unprecedented".     "We have witnessed over five million ROK and Chinese people visit each other's country and the two-way trade volume expand 26 times bigger during the 17 years since ROK and China forged a diplomatic relationship", Han said. BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called for attention to "institutional and management loopholes" discovered in the auditing of central government budget in 2008 here Wednesday.     Wen made the comment at the executive meeting of the State Council, China's Cabinet.     All related authorities should take more effective measures to correct these problems, including revising the budget law, strengthening the monitoring and supervision of the new investment projects of the central government, and enhancing transparency in government affairs, Wen said.     He also called for establishment of accountability mechanism and building of effective monitoring, alarm, emergency system directing at major economic risks.     The correction result should be reported to the State Council by the end of October, Wen said.     Wen also said that the execution and management of the central budget had made substantial improvement in general, and highlighted the importance of audit supervision.     The meeting also approved plans to develop the coastal economic belt in northeastern Liaoning Province in an effort to rejuvenate the traditional industrial base.     The zone comprises coastal cities of Dalian, Dandong, Jinzhou, Yingkou, Panjin and Huludao, which opened navigation services to more than 140 countries and regions.     The economic zone should work to boost the opening up of northeast China, promote the shipping and logistics services, and push for the development of advanced manufacturing in the area.
