L'AQUILA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama said on Thursday that he was looking forward to visiting China later this year.     Obama made the remarks when meeting with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, who was here to attend the leaders' meeting of the Group of Eight (G8) and five leading emerging economies (G5) on behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao.     During the meeting, Obama said the U.S. side attached importance to the U.S.-China relations, and he hoped that the upcoming U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue could generate fruitful results, according to a press release issued by the Chinese delegation.     It is important for the United States and China to enhance cooperation on major international issues, Obama said, adding that it benefits both countries and both people.     The two also exchanged views on bilateral relations and other major international and regional issues, said the press release.     Dai conveyed Hu's greetings to Obama while Obama asked Dai to pass on his greetings and good wishes to Hu.     Hu cut short his stay in Italy and skipped the G8 meeting due to the situation in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. He returned to Beijing Wednesday.

ASHGABAT, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here on Wednesday that the joint natural gas projects between China and Turkmenistan serve the fundamental and long-term interest of both peoples.     Li made the remarks during a video conference with the Chinese and Turkmenistan's workers of China National Petroleum Corporation International (Turkmenistan). The workers had been busy with constructing a vast natural gas processing facility in a natural gas field some 700 kilometers southeast of Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat. SHANGHAI, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. (COMAC) unveiled its manufacturing and assembling center here Saturday, the latest step towards the goal to manufacture China's homegrown large aircraft.     The Final Assembly Center of the COMAC was based on the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., with a registered capital of two billion yuan (292.7 million U.S. dollars), said COMAC's general manager Jin Zhuanglong. QINGDAO, April 20 (Xinhua) -- China's senior navy officer said here Monday that the international fleet review to be held in east port city Qingdao on Thursday is aimed at promoting understanding about China's military development.     Ding Yiping, deputy commander of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, told Xinhua in an exclusive interview that the review would serve as a platform for navies from other countries to increase their understanding about China and the Chinese navy. He is confident that the weather on Thursday would be good enough for the review to go smoothly, if "no major weather accidents happen."

TOKYO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- China's Shanghai has donated 50,000 face masks to Osaka of Japan where a large number of new-flu infections is reported.     The masks arrived at Osaka, Shanghai's "sister city" on Wednesday and will be distributed to local medial facilities in both Osaka city and Osaka prefecture. They are expected to ease the region's shortage of face masks due to the abrupt outbreak of A/H1N1 flu.     Shanghai is the third Chinese city to donate masks to Japan. Earlier, northern city of Tianjin and the southern Guangdong Province also donated masks to their "sister" cities or prefectures in Japan, Kobe city and Hyogo Prefecture respectively.     The number of new-flu infections in Japan came to 364 in 10 prefectures as of Wednesday afternoon, with Wakayama Prefecture joining other western Japan prefectures in reporting an outbreak.     The newly confirmed infection in Wakayama city government is a male company employee in his late 20s. Earlier Wednesday, two children in central Japan's Shizuoka city also were confirmed infected with the flu.

YEKATERINBURG, Russia, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Monday night with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.     Hu said China has always striven, steadfastly and from a strategic and long-term perspective, to promote good neighborliness and friendly cooperation with India, an important neighbor of China and also a fast-growing emerging power.     The Chinese side is ready to work with the Indian side to maintain the sound momentum for development of the bilateral strategic and cooperative partnership, make greater efforts to implement the "10 strategies" reached between the leaders of the two countries, enhance mutual political trust and reciprocal cooperation in various fields, take into consideration each other's concerns and core interests, and strengthen coordination and cooperation on major international and regional issues, said Hu. BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's political advisors were urged to brainstorm on economic development and offer suggestions as the nation copes with the impact of the global downturn.     Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a political advisory body, made the call as the standing committee of the 11thCPPCC National Committee kicked off its sixth meeting Tuesday.     Jia said maintaining steady, relatively fast economic development and safeguarding social stability and harmony were the foremost tasks facing the government.
