BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday met with visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, hailing fresh development of bilateral relationship and vowing closer collaboration. "Russia is one of the top agenda on China's diplomacy as we pay much attention to relations with Russia," Hu told Putin in their half an hour meeting in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.     Hu said this year was significant for China-Russia relations as both countries celebrated their 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.     Russia was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with China, days after the People's Republic of China was founded on Oct. 1, 1949. They held closed-door talks and witnessed the signing of 12 agreements, including the agreements on natural gas and oil.

BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- China issued alert on 8 p.m. Saturday for flood in the country's Hunan and Jiangxi provinces which left dozens people dead or missing and displaced hundreds of thousands, and sent relief groups to the two provinces.     As of 4 p.m. of Saturday, five people were killed, 10 were missing and about 64,000 were relocated by the widespread heavy rain in Hunan since July 23, said the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters. BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China resolutely opposes U.S. move to start anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations into seamless steel pipes imported from China, the Ministry of Commerce(MOC) said.     The current hardships facing the U.S. steel industry was because consumption and demand waned after the financial crisis. "Blindly blaming Chinese imports of dumping or subsidies is lack of factual bases, which China strongly opposes," MOC announced in a statement on its website Saturday.     The statement came after U.S. Department of Commerce said Wednesday that it had initiated anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations at the request of the U.S. Steel Corporation, V&M Star LP, TMK IPSCO and the United Steelworkers (USW).     The U.S. petitioners requested a 98.37-percent anti-dumping duty against the Chinese imports and additional countervailing duties to offset what they allege are Chinese government subsidies.     The case was the seventh such investigations this year launched by the U.S. Department of Commerce against Chinese imports that included claims of both dumping and subsidies, MOC said.     Resorting to trade protectionism would not solve the real problem, instead it would hurt the interests of U.S. downstream steel businesses as well as bilateral trade, it said.

BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's crude steel output would surely top 500 million tonnes this year, said Luo Bingsheng, vice chairman of China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) on Saturday.     In the first half, China produce 266.58 million tonnes of crude steel, up 1.23 percent over the same period last year. In June alone, the daily output was about 1.65 million tonnes on average.     Compared with an increasing production capacity, the country's steel enterprises saw declining profits and revenues in the first six months amid low steel prices resulted from weaken market demands.     According to statistics covered 71 of China's large-scale steel producers, total business revenue of them dropped 28.07 percent year on year to 955 billion yuan (139.82 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half. Profit decreased by 98.32 percent to 1.73 billion yuan.     China produced 500 million tonnes of crude steel last year, accounting for 38 percent of the world total production volume.
